Computer Bytes - No. 24 The end of a year is both a time to reflect and a time to look forward. For those who may have missed some of my articles I would like to offer a brief recap of the topics Computer Bytes has covered this past year. All of the articles below are available on line for your review at www.moncriefwebdesign.com under the Computer Bytes link at the bottom of the page. For convenience the articles have been grouped according to subject matter with their article number in parentheses. I will start with the more general articles that cover topics to consider if you are thinking about buying a computer: 'Computer Specifications' (1), 'What is an ISP' (2), 'Computer Threats-Viruses, Worms, and Trojan Horses' (11), 'Safety of Wireless and Need of Firewalls' (12) and 'Difference Between CD and DVD Formats' (20). After you purchase a computer or if you already have one, keeping your computer in top operating condition is of utmost importance. Just like your car, your computer requires regular maintenance to stay in top working condition. For information regarding maintenance procedures read these articles: 'How to Perform a Scan Disk and Defrag' (16) and 'Use of Routers' (18). See what the future holds by reading 'Future Computers: Surface' (7). And for those with special needs you may want to review the article on 'Computer Accessibility' (17) for ways to make using the computer easier through special key strokes, larger print along with links to other helpful sites. If you have a computer, maximize its use by learning some of the shortcuts that are available. Some of my favorite shortcuts can be applied to almost any of the computer programs including email, graphics and text writing programs. These shortcuts can be found under 'Key Stroke Shortcuts' (9) and 'F Key Functions' (10). Other topics to review cover the how to's of effectively using email: 'Forwarding Email' (13), 'Email-Send, Reply, Address Books, Attachments' (14) and 'Using Email Folders & Deleting Emails' (15). There is never a lack of sites to visit on the Internet and Computer Bytes has covered many interesting sites as well as provided easy, effective methods of searching.
