For those not familiar with using tabs, it is an easy way to view multiple pages while on the Internet. Using tabs allows you to have numerous pages open at the same time, navigate between those pages and close selected pages as desired.
These directions are based on using Windows and Internet Explorer. When on the Internet, you will notice a tab towards the upper left of the screen that contains the name of the site you are viewing. This is not the line with the .com address. You will see that next to this tab is a smaller tab in a lighter color. Clicking on the smaller tab will open a new tab for browsing - it will not affect the other tab. You will also notice that another small tab has appeared next to the blank tab you just opened. This will happen each time you open a new tab. The newly opened tab will have a blank .com address line. Here you can either type in the address of the page you want to visit or open one of your Favorites.
With these two tabs open, you can now jump back and forth between the pages by clicking on the tabs. Regardless of the number of tabs open, you can jump between them and they will all remain open until you close them. There are several ways to close a tabbed page. To close the tabbed page on screen, click the small 'x' on the right side of the tab where its name appears. If you want to close a tab without opening the page, place the cursor over the tab to be closed and click the middle mouse button. You can also use a combination of key strokes (Control + W) to close a current tab. If you mistakenly click on the 'x' in the upper right of the screen, not only will you will close all of the tabs at once, but also disconnect the computer from the browser at the same time.
Use tabs to view an email attachment by opening the email and right clicking the attachment name. An 'options' menu box will pop-up. Select 'Open in New Tab'. Once selected, you will see that a new tab has appeared next to the tab for the email program. Left mouse click this new tab and you will see your attachment. Follow the steps above to close the attachment tab.
You can change the address of an opened tab by typing a different .com in the address bar. Links on pages can also be opened using the tab feature. To do this, right click on the link and select 'Open in New Tab'. When you have finished viewing the linked page, close the tab, and you will return to your original page.
Some quick shortcuts for navigating tabs are: Control + T opens a new tab. Control + Q gives a thumbnail view of all the tabs you have open. Control + W closes the current tab. Tabs are a quick, easy way to move around the Internet. Additional links: For more information on tabs . . . click here.
